Requirements to Adopt From Foster Care
The most important requirements are having love, patience and a commitment to the future of our community’s children.
General requirements: To adopt a child through SaintA, you must first be licensed as a foster parent. Foster parents must be at least 21 years old, and can be single, married or partnered; they can work outside the home and have children of their own in the home. Please see our Become a Foster Parent page for complete information and requirements, as well as inquiry and application forms.
Additional licensing and training may be required to be approved as an adoptive home.
In Wisconsin, only one partner in any unmarried couple may legally adopt, but the other can become a legal guardian.
Supplemental support and resources are available pre- and post-adoption to ensure that once an adoption is finalized, these are truly the forever parents. For complete information, visit Coalition for Children, Youth and Families.
